| John Lent – Friday July 4 - OK Centre Park |
| |
|
John Lent is a singer, a songwriter and a literary writer. Lent moved with his partner, the painter & writer Jude Clarke, to Vernon in the late 70s and has taught Literature and Creative Writing at new Okanagan College for twenty-six years. He has also published a series of books of poetry and fiction, the seventh, a novel, called ‘So It Won’t Go Away’. Lent grew up in a musical family in Edmonton, and played in a variety of bands there in the late 60s and early 70s. He has four brothers and one sister who are professional musicians, and Lent has been writing and performing songs for himself and them for thirty five years.
Lent is able to shift from literary writer to song lyricist with ease, concentrating his rich imagery in the more ‘pared down’ forms of songs like ‘Something Else,’ ‘Real World’ and ‘West Coast Blues.’ Lent’s laid-back vocal phrasing, like a long prairie stride, tempers the insistent guitar rhythms of Fraser and Wall, creating the unique LFW sound. Though Lent would say his songwriting has been heavily influenced by singer-songwriters like Randy Newman, Jesse Winchester, John Prine, Robbie Robertson and Lucinda Williams, his collaborations with Fraser have drawn him into newer and newer territory. |

| Cat Wells (aka Phat Betty) – Friday July 4 - OK Centre Park |
| |
|
Vocalist Cat Wells knows how to reach into your soul as if relaying your own heartfelt tragedy with her emotion filled, energetic and impromptu brand of Blues. With her earliest idols being Miss Billie Holiday followed by Etta James and Janis Joplin, it’s not surprising to hear hints of Jazz and Funk thrown in there as well. Her poignant use of phasing and creative manipulation of notes whisk you into a smokey bayou where you experience her own interruptive twist on styles.
Born in Toronto, Ontario and raised in Toronto’s suburbs, Cat began singing at an early age. In fact her grade one report card boasts “Cathy-Ann loves to sing and entertains us quite frequently”. She has run the gambit on musical styles including Folk, Country, Bluegrass, Rock, Funk, Jazz and finally Blues.
Cat has shared the stage with "the Ray Charles Orchestra", Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne and Harpdog Brown and has opened for ZZ Top, Crash Test Dummies, Jeff Healey, Rita Chiarelli and countless others. She has performed from Alaska to the Grand Cayman Islands in venues as small as 30 people and to audiences as large as 10,000.
After some eager experimentation with Jazz, Cat released her 1st CD in March 2002 “Cathy-Ann Wells Live with the Bowman Trio”. Although the release was met with great reviews, her loyalist of fans still enquired endlessly for a Blues recording of the vigorous live performance of PHAT Betty, prompting the release of “PHAT Betty - Bootleg Blues” in March 2003.
Now, with the acceptance of 2 CD’s under her belt, Wells is finally recording her original material with award winning sound engineer Jeff Long (producer of Daniel Powter, Juno winner for producing Greg Sczebel). Most notably she is recording a well received jump blues tune entitled “Brand New Shoes” and featuring Blues legend Sonny Rhodes on slide guitar and vocals on "Everything I Had is Gone". Although performances by PHAT Betty are becoming fewer in the Okanagan, Wells vows to return yearly to give back to the friends and fans that set her on her musical course. |

| Jennifer Boal - performing as one of Louise B's friends - Friday, July 18th - Kopje |
| |
|
Jennifer moved to the Okanagan in 1997 with her high school sweetheart, Sean. They married in 1998 and have created a loving family including their seven year old daughter, Sophia, and their 22 month old son, Benjamin.
Music has always provided an escape and inspiration for Jennifer. Her older brother, Alex, inspired her to learn how to play the guitar so that she could put his poetry to music and create original songs.
After a few years of playing, a musical audition earned her an invitation to attend a songwriting workshop by Bill Henderson and Roy Forbes held in Summerland. This experience profoundly improved her confidence in her musical skills and gave her the courage to enter two of her songs into an International Songwriting Contest. Her songs, Save Us, and Shadow of Midnight, moved on to the second round of judging from the original fifteen thousand entrants received from all over Canada and the United States.
Performing at Coffee House singer/songwriting evenings and weddings, as well as producing work related musical showcases, filled her need to be surrounded by musical creativity while still enjoying her professional career as a teacher. |

| Johnnie Hintz – Thursday, July 24 - Beasely Park |
| |
|
Johnnie Hintz has always enjoyed singing, and recognized his big voice a long ways back, but never really put it to practice until he was already in his 40's. Since then he's been doing a variety of performances locally, such as Country Jamboree, Lake Country Manor, Canada Day, various benefits, farmers market, and a little church gospel at times, as well.
All in fun though, he says, if he feels he can do what they like, then he's game to try it. Some artists John enjoys singing to are, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Randy Travis, and when he steps out of country, some Neil Diamond, sometimes Elvis, and other selective music from the fifties and sixties. The difficult thing about singing to backtracks, he says, is keeping to the original format, while incorporating your own style.
He has no plans to make a career out of it, just singing to entertain those who enjoy his sound. John has been living and doing business in Lake Country since 1991. He is the original owner/operator of Lake Country Self Storage on Beaver Lake Road. John lives in Lake Country as well, with his wife Jayne, and three children, age 7, 13, and 14. Doing business here, raising our family, various sports activities, and many hobbies, including singing, are all part of his Okanagan lifestyle.

| Paradox – Thursday, July 24 - Beasely Park |
| |
|
The band "Paradox" was originally formed under the name "Growing Words" in December 2007 by Dan Marcelino, Jeff Chimney , Dillon Jameson and Gordie Harrison. Dan, Jeff and Gordie had previously been part of the four piece band "Do not Attempt", which had broken up a week or so prior.
Soon after forming "Growing Words", Sam Kaplan, who was an old friend of Jeff, Gordie and Dillon, joined the band as their keyboard player. They first performed "Threads of a Desparate Mind", a song they had written one week before the performance. After that, Dillon slowly stopped showing up to the practices, until, by the time of their next appearance at their local school band concert, he was no longer considered part of the band.
With the loss of Dillon, the name "Growing Words", died, too. Shortly after that, Dan came to the rest of them with the name "Paradox", meaning inconsistencies, contradictions, irony, etc. Everyone liked the name and so it began.
Paradox is a rock band with a style all its own. There's good chemistry between the four band members, and this makes them work well together. Paradox has a mission...to change the world with their music, one community at a time.
Drums and lead/backup vocals: Dan Marcelino
Guitar and lead/backup vocals: Jeff Chimney
Bass guitar and backup vocals: Gordie Harrison
Keyboard: Sam Kaplan |

| SONGS OF THE WAR YEARS - Friday July 25 - Beasley Park |
| |
|
With songs like , " Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree, White Cliffs of Dover and I'll Be Seeing you", Okanagan born entertainers Sally Evans ( vocals) and Molly Boyd ( Piano) would like to take you on a sentimental journey through the years of 1939 to 1945. Molly and Sally want to recognize the men and the women who lived through that era of our history.
The show is dedicated to the veterans who served our country , however, all families, the young and the old, are encouraged to come together as the memories and emotions shared are priceless! " We ask that the audience come ready to laugh, sing, reminisce and even to cry" says Sally. Working in recreation at Noric House, a seniors home, in Vernon, Evans loves to sing all the old songs with the residents. She and Molly realized after performing this show, to great response, in honour of the Year of the Veteran at the Branch 25 Legion in Vernon that many older people in the community don't often get to hear and sing the old tunes and now the rest is history!
Two and a half years later, this tribute has been performed to 40 audiences and over 5000 people! ......Come and join Sally and Molly for a wonderfully nostalgic trip down memory lane.......... |

| SMALL CHANGE – Friday Aug 22 - Swalwell Park |
| |
|
Over the years, Small Change has evolved into a unique, distinctive sound we call 'Cool Blues Fusion'. Our fresh and engaging sound sets us apart from most music offered.
Sven Nordlund's slide guitar, vocals, and harmonica style draw from the varied syncopated rhythms of the earlier blues artists. This is blended with the subtle world rhythms of percussionist Jim Copeman on his unorthodox percussion kit, and the improvisational fretless bass playing of Jim Caldwell. We play original music and our own compositions, which are well received by our fans who are as eclectic as our sound.
Our main objective is to challenge ours, and our fan's, musical experience....and to have fun!!! |

| Velvet Soul – Friday Aug 22 - Swalwell Park |
| |
|
Pat Bellamy: I was raised in Montreal Quebec with 5 siblings who all participate in music in some fashion. My first real performance was for a televised Christmas broadcast where I sang solo with a church choir when I was 8 years old. I taught myself how to play the guitar at age 13 and was very passionate about that for years. As a young teenager I was up-rooted to the prairies where I had a solo act performing folk music in the coffee house scene, played with a 3-piece bluegrass band, formed a folk duo with another female singer/guitar player, and worked as a hired singer for a recording studio for radio commercials in Winnipeg. For various circumstances, I left the music scene until the mid-90’s when I moved to Winfield. Since then I have participated in various choirs and musical projects; sung backup for local bands such as the Zamboni Brothers and Jane Eamon and sat in with others like Ellen Churchill and Dogskin Suit. I am very excited and grateful to be singing once again and thank friends and family who have supported and encouraged me to do so.
Marc Poulin: I was born in Ottawa Ont and raised in St.Jean Quebec. I studied the Toronto conservatory piano method and violin at Ecole Vincent D’Indy in Montreal. In my early 20’s I took up bass guitar, synthesizer and rock & blues piano. For the past 25 years I have performed in bands, duos and various projects, specializing in electronic keyboards. Since my first band I have been interested in sound and have trained and worked as an audio technician.
Pat and Marc separately joined a 6-piece rock band in Kelowna in 2005 and subsequently decided to form their current duo called Velvet Soul. They have been working together for a couple of years now performing for audiences in and around the Okanagan Valley. Velvet Soul, which features Marc on key-boards and Pat on vocals and percussion, has a repertoire ranging from 60’s classics by Etta James & Ray Charles; to well-known favorites by Santana, Shania Twain & Stevie Ray Vaughn; to timeless wonders by Van Morrison, Carol King & Elvis Presley.
Join them for a musical evening at Swalwell Park on August 22nd.

| Ryan Donn – August 23 - Swalwell Park |
| |
|
Having been a performer since he was a child, Ryan Donn, has honed his style and his sound on the stages of his hometown in Scotland as well as British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. His beginnings as one of the few boys in the choir, taught him early about the power of song. In each of Ryan’s songs, there is a story. These stories are from the life he experiences and in these words he captures the stories of many people’s lives. Fueled by performances in many varied venues, Ryan has fashioned an onstage persona that simply shines and he is a delightful, captivating entertainer who instantly wins over crowds with his pleasing demeanor, impressive onstage aura, and masterful musicianship. As both a singer and songwriter, Ryan has been heralded by fans and the media alike. “he looks like Harry Connick Jr., sounds a bit like Blue Rodeo, and can talk like Sean Connery….” Journalist Lori-Anne Charlton says of Ryan. His sound has been likened to the story telling prowess of the Barenaked Ladies as well as the soulful nature of John Mayer and even given the illustrious comparison as a new age Jim Croce.
Rave reviews are already rolling in for This Life, the sophomore CD by award winning Canadian troubadour Ryan Donn – Charlie Hodge, BC Music Magazine. This Life is a superb encore CD to Ryan’s inaugural 2005 album, Causewayend. Causewayend, in it’s masterful lyrics and appeal, provided many opportunities for Donn including performing with 54-40, a tour of Japan and Expo 2005, and winning Male Performer of the Year 2005 at the Okanagan Music Awards.
Following on the heals of his critically acclaimed album Causewayend, This life was written over the past three years. The polished final sound of This Life has afforded him the ability to be a Finalist in the Honor in the Arts Award for the City of Kelowna Civic Awards in 2008 as well as having the song In This life selected for the 2008 Music B.C. compilation CD, while There For You is the first single released off the new CD and is receiving rave reviews through media and is being played daily in rotation on SILK FM, KISS FM and over 20 other stations across B.C. In this life has also been selected for a compilation CD that is being marketed directly to the TV and movie industries.
